Position: Network Security AdministratorLocation: Washington, DC
Duration: Permanent (Fulltime)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
Develop, implement, maintain and oversee enforcement of policies, procedures, and plans for system security administration and access.
Keep current with emerging security alerts, concerns, issues and strategies.
Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in security enhancement and development support.
Provides Tier 3 support as needed to customer and IT department.
Responsible for the use and functionality of network management tools including virus/threat management, asset control, and deployment tools.
Responsible for the internet filtering software and assures appropriate security and functionality to customers based upon hospital policy.
Responsible for recommendations and implementation of encryption and mobile device strategy.
Coordinates all internal auditing and security control reporting requests and requirements.
Manages workload in accordance with guidelines and priorities of the department.
Evaluates customer requests and determines if the technical request meets the business requirement.
Works closely with customers, vendors, consultants, and IT staff to resolve information technology related issues on systems, hardware, connectivity, etc.
Continually monitors and quickly resolves service anomalies in network traffic, protocols, security breaches, viruses, system abuse or attacks, server based applications, host connectivity and utilization by methodically and responsibly following industry recognized and appropriate corrective actions.
Maintains accurate, timely, written and graphical LAN and WAN documentation. Communicates any changes to the appropriate IT staff to ensure continuity of knowledge and awareness.
Contributes to the productivity and efficient operation of the department through skills transfer, continued professional growth, and self education of new technologies.
Performs on-call duty providing off-hour support for network or other support issues, as necessary.
Recommend, schedule, and perform security improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases.
Deploy, manage and maintain all security systems and their corresponding or associated software, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, cryptography systems, and anti-virus software.
Manage and ensure the security of databases and data transferred both internally and externally.
Design, perform, and/or oversee penetration testing of all systems in order to identify system vulnerabilities.
Design, implement, and report on security system and activity audits.
Monitor server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity. Interpret activity and make recommendations for resolution.
Recommend, schedule (where appropriate), and apply fixes, security patches, disaster recovery procedures, and any other measures required in the event of a security breach.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
Minimum of 4 years of work with information security experience.
Experience in a healthcare institution preferred
Strong knowledge of Cisco hardware. (firewalls, routers, switches)
Network and systems security credentials or certifications desirable.
Knowledge of networking principles, terminology and hierarchy.
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and network administration/protocols.
Knowledge of applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection.
High level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong interpersonal, oral communication and customer service skills.
Highly self motivated and directed.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to excel in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.
Excellent attention to detail.
Able to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
