Position: Cat Caretaker
Non-Profit Animal Shelter
Full Time: Monday-Friday
8:00 am – 6:00 pm
1 hour for lunch
Salary: $10-$12 hourly
Available: Immediately
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide care for cats in a no-kill animal shelter including feeding, watering, and medicating cats and kittens.
Wash litter and food pans; do laundry, sweep and mop floors; scoop fecal matter.
Monitor condition of cats and implement precautionary measures in order to prevent disease transmission. Cleans and disinfect enclosures and rooms in accordance with established practices.
Maintain a professional, caring attitude about all the animals in the shelter; treat them all in the same manner.
Prepare and maintain a variety of computer files on the animals.
Provide general office assistance such as data entry or other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education
High School or GED
Experience
At least one year related animal experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Safely feed, handle and medicate a wide variety of cats and kittens.
Learn the methods and techniques used in the care and handling of animals.
Observe and assess animal behavior.
Maintain accurate records.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Organize work for timely completion.
Respond calmly to work interruptions and get back on task to complete work.
Recognize the need for assistance and ask for help.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Be able to remain calm in frustrating situations.
Perform manual labor.
Supplemental Information:
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
Standing, moving or sitting for up to 8 hours a day.
Must be able to lift up to 35#.
Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.
Must have a reasonable degree of agility to move through tightly cramped areas in various situations.
Must have a good range of motion in joints especially wrists, knees and elbows.
Must have a good range of motion in your back for instance twisting.
Must be able to work and reach on hands and knees.
Must be able to use a step stool.
Must possess excellent hand-eye coordination.
Must have good vision including peripheral vision, fine detail, distance, depth perception and the ability to focus.
Exposure to dirt, animals, kitty litter dust, and fecal matter.
Prolonged exposure to bleach, Simple Green, Parvoclear and Trifectant (antiviral kennel cleaners). Gloves to be worn when using any of these.
